Summer Solstice

The first day of summer is the Summer Solstice, also called Midsummer. It occurs when the Earth is midway on her voyage around the Sun.

It marks the peak of days in the solar year as the Sun reaches its northernmost position resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Sun rises and sets at its southernmost points, making a wide sweep across the sky.

It is a time of abundance as the Earth is in her full glory of maturity. Everything is green and growing, colorful and blooming. The fairy folk are at their peak of activity.

"Hand in hand with fairy grace
Will we sing and bless this place"
from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream

Symbols of the Summer Solstice:

  • Color - red
  • Flower - rose
  • Divine Couple; Divine Union
  • South on the Medicine Wheel

Rider Waite Tarot-The Sun

The Sun represents the Divine Source of life. The Solstice is the time to connect with the invisible power behind the Radiant Sun. For sensitives, it's a good time to make contact with Angelics and Masters.

The gatekeeper is Archangel Uriel. His name means Light of God, or Fire of God. He is said to be the guardian of the elemental worlds.

The Sun enters the cardinal sign of Cancer, the Celestial Mother who is the only sign 'ruled' by the Moon. Mystic Cancer brings in the increasing of nights and intuition.

The rising Moon in June is called the Dyad Moon which refers to the Sun (god) and the Moon (goddess) as they come together in full power at Midsummer Solstice.

The Divine Marriage of the Sun at its peak and the Moon dressed in Her native water sign occurs now. This union of light upon water creates the rainbow of promise. It's a time of fulfillment and illumination.

In Esoteric Christianity, the Midsummer Solstice is a Festival of the Ascended Christ. It is when the Cosmic Christ is reborn into His true home of Christ Consciousness.

June is the month of Christ and of love and passion, represented by the rose. A spiritual radiation of Love and Light is directed outward to humanity in great waves during the Solstice season.

"The highest teaching ever given to humanity is the Sermon on the Mount, which was delivered at the Summer Solstice"       Corinne Heline
